Default Black and white Paynes Prairie

Paynes Prairie is really dry now because of the prolonged drought we're having. This area is usually filled with water and birds. I took this with my IR camera and used Nik Color Efex Black and White, then Soft Focus and a round of Topaz Clean. I don't know why but it reminds me of a Bierstadt painting (without the color)

I like the soft details and tonal range in this, Cheryl, but personally I think it needs more of a focal point to hold my interest. As it is, my eye just wanders through the scene without being drawn into it.

I'm having fun with this one, Cheryl. The lighting/shadows and the IR tones has me a bit off balance while the wonderful sky and grass detail keep me drawn in. Very neat image!

Cheryl, I like the soft peaceful look. I might give it a slight rotation if it were mine. The sloping horizon draws my eye. I can see Christopher's point regarding more of a focal point but I do like the feel to this one.

I like it Cheryl! This really gives a good sense of what Paynes Prairie is like. I haven't been this year and am a little surprised at just how low the water levels are.

The lighting is wonderful. I agree with the slight rotation suggestion.

    Are there any sandhills around?

Except for the before mentioned rotation, I wouldn't change a thing...nice composition and effects

Hi Cheryl, I like the IR look to this. Ditto on the rotation. I might be inclined to crop a little off the top, but that is just me. Nice work!

Very nice, peaceful prairie image, Cheryl, and the B&W works well. I'm going to go look up Bierstadt now.
