The wife and I went to our home town to see family and while we were at my parents ranch I decided to bring out the camera. They have quite a few pigeons that fly around so I decided to practice taking some in flight stuff.
Specs: Pentax K10D, Pentax 75mm - 300mm @ 270mm, f/5.6, ISO-400, 1/2000 sec, HH, Auto-Focus. Some Topaz NR on the BG and a little bit of sharpening on the subject. As always, C & C welcomed!
You captured a good wing position and the bird looking at you is good too because usually when the bird is angling away like this you don't get good eye contact.
I like your crop just fine. The settings you used are good to stop action but some of the whites on the right wing may be over-exposed because no detail is visible there.
The bird's plumage is somewhat noisy in general and the detail is not as good as i would expect with the 1/2000 shutter speed, was this a very large crop?
Good start....keep shooting, get as close as possible and try to shoot while they're flying toward you.
