    Default Goose gone wild

Not knowing anything about geese, I assumed this was some species of wild goose. Imagine my consternation when I couldn't find him in Sibley's. Near as I can tell from other sources, it's a domestic goose descended from Swan Goose. I thought him a handsome fellow nonetheless.

    At Gilbert Water Ranch last week. D7000, 200-400 F/4, 400mm, 1/8000 @f/5.6, ISO 320.
Center-weighted metering -1.0. He's at 5 meters distance. BG is the pebbled path of the preserve.

Great eye to use the path as your background!

Everything else looks well exposed and sharp. The head turn could be more
toward the camera, but that's a minor detail. Everything else is spot on.

Thanks for the look, Doug. Gotta admit that I screwed up the exposure and had to add back 1.75 in post. Sigh. Just don't think fast enough at times. Luckily the low ISO gave me some IQ anyway.

Hi Ron, good alert pose coming into the frame, and although a bit dirty, the whites are well exposed. I like the finer detail on his beak.

Ron, love the details in this photo. I have a similar one of this goose at pond 7.

Thanks for looking Roy. I got over there in November, and again two weeks ago, while visiting my daughter and family in Scottsdale. That's a great resource.

Excellent exposure, light, IQ and comp. I would never have guessed that you had to brighten it so much in post.
Domesticated or not, this is a very elegant head shot.
