    Default Annas Hummingbird

Taken with Pentax K5, Pentax FA* 300mm (f/2.8), monopod.

In retrospect I may have gone with more DOF on this one, but I was happy with the detail in the face.

    f/6.3, 1/1000 sec., ISO 800, Exp bias (-0.3). Processed in LR/Viveza.

    Comments welcome.

I like the symmetry in this one Peter. The facial colour and detail in the top head feathers provide a strong focal point. Nice background too!

This is lovely in all aspects; the simple composition, the lovely colors, the sharp details of the bird and the wonderful framing by the blurred wings. A moment very well captured! I probably would have cropped a little off the right side and added more to the left side as the bird is looking slightly to the left.

Thank you Nancy - I do have some room with this one so can work on the cropping a bit. Didn't want to put the bird right in the middle, but for this one it may make sense.

Thank you Dan. Sometimes with the Annas HBs the natural brightness/irradescence in the facial feathers is so bright it looks cartoonish, so I was happy the facial colors didn't get blown out with this one. When I processed it I still had to de-saturate a little bit. Normally I make slight adjustments going the other way.

    Regards,

    Pete

I like this a lot Peter, the detail in the throat is excellent, love the raised crown, perch, and the BG is perfect.

    Thanks Jack,

Luckily this fellow was patient with me and let me take a few shots from fairly close range.
