After I returned from Ocean Shores, I kind of kicked myself for not getting more environment and "big Picture" photos.
The Owls were too easy to get close to.
Here is one showing the kind of perches they were on.

Jack, the perches are Pacific Ocean driftwood. Whole old growth trees in places.
The spit at Ocean Shores is just a narrow piece of land jutting into the bay with the Ocean on one side and Grays Harbor bay on the other.
The Owls in some cases are 100 feet or so from surf , in fact besides voles, I wonder if they are feasting on Ocean birds such
as gulls, etc.
The area they are in is just sandy ocean grasses, littered with stumps, logs and whole trees.
