There are many coulda, shoulda issues with this but I managed to catch a large flock of waxwings feeding on the berry bushes behind our house on a low light morning. Out of many shots this was the best of the bunch. It was taken with a D7000 using a 300mm F4 with a 1.7 TC. 1/125th of a second, 7.1 aperture, 400 ISO. In hind sight, I know what I think I'd do differently next time. What are your comments?
Wow, Mike, alot going on in this image, yet it really does work for me. i love the berry covered vines and even the way the rear bird is positioned with his head above the intersection. The front bird could be sharper, I'm thinking it's motion blur at 1/125th of a second, but it's not fatal to the image in my book. Not familiar with your camera but doubling the iso to 800 would have helped a bit with Shutter speed, but probably not enough. Most don't care for square crops, but I think with this image design it works well.
Thank you for your nice comments and suggestions. Honestly, I gave little thought to the shape of the crop; only adjusting it to the main subjects, giving them space, and including the berries where I could for effect. Yes, the ISO should have been kicked up some and some fill flash might have helped. At the time, I was so excited to be so close to these birds I wasn't thinking it through. Have a great week!
