    Default Burrowing Owl

Hello everyone. Well this little guys are starting to spend more time out in the open. This year I have already found 2 pairs (hopefully they have young ones) and 2 single ones. Off to a pretty good start. Here is a pic of one them. Taken just as the sun went down. A higher angle was possible, but at the ss I was shooting at I needed to rest my gear on my beanbag to avoid motion blur.

Robert, that's a wonderful image. Did you add some blur in post, or is that the way it came out? The eyes are brilliant and sharp, with everything else neutral and almost monocolor. I love the owl, but can't decide about the extreme BG blur -- it's very artistic and painterly, but seems a little ghostly.

Hello Ron. Thank you for your comments. I ran NR on the BG, but that is how the original shot looks.

I like the o-o-f foreground. In fact, I would have liked a bit more of it. And you had plenty of room above to sacrifice a bit. I like the stare with adequate d-o-f.

Lovely portrait! Looks like he is in heaven. On my monitor I see a tiny bit of magenta cast. Perhaps it is just me? I like the composition as well. Would like to have this in my folder,

Excellent bkgd and contrast with subject. Agree with Artie on the oof foreground and would also place the owl more central in the frame.

Beautiful dreamy portrait, Robert. Those eyes really pop out of the muted colors. Agree with slight shift in placement.

Very nice look at this guy, Robert.
Maybe a bit more contrast, but as everyone has said, very good DOF.
    Nice find.

Hi Robert, I rate this one of your best to date. Love how the owl blends into the FG, and with good eye contact. As Artie stated, maybe a little bit more room at the bottom. Still, very well captured and well done.

Thank you all very much for all your comments. Unfortunetly in this frame I have no more room at the bottom, but I was looking through the series and there are some frames with more room at the bottom. I will try to post one.

Absolutely love this, Robert. I love how he blends into the fg and bg and yet stands out. Agree with some more fg, but man, this is great.
