    Default Velvet Purple Coronet

Photographed in Milpe, Ecuador in January 2012 on a photo workshop led by Glenn Bartley. Bird was attracted to flowers with sugar water. About 20% of frame (all left of the bird) was cloned in to preclude having the bird "looking out of the frame". This required extending the brighter leaf to the edge of the frame.

Canon 1D Mark IV, 300mm f/2.8 lens on Gitzo Tripod, 1/250", f/20, ISO 640, Multi-flash setup with printed background.

    All comments welcome and encouraged,

The pose is killer - it makes this image IMHO. In a perfect world, the leaf on the RHS would not be clipped. Well done!

Fantastic Hummer image. Love the pose, BG and plant choice. I might be tempted to tone down the glare on the flowers

Great image Bill, like to straight up pose. The red in the flowers seems very red. I am missing the top of the left leaf, and would also like to see a bit more space on the right. I might also tone down the front leaf and make it a bit darker as it attracts the eye away from the bird as presented.

The pose is what makes this image so special. Agree with Alan on toning down the flowers a bit b/c that would bring more emphasis to your lovely hummer!

Thanks for the critique! I agree with most of what was said. For this repost, I somewhat darkened and desaturated the flowers and front leaf.

Welcome home Bill! Love the pose. It looks like you got some good advice above. Can't wait to see more of your Ecuador images!
