    Default Female Ring-necked Duck

Here's the mate to the male I posted yesterday. This time I didn't cut off the tail. Taken at Gilbert Water Ranch in Arizona Friday morning.

Nikon D7000, 200-400 f/4, 1.4 TC, @360mm. 1/1600 @f/5.6, ISO 400. This is a slight crop, not much done in post but add a little contrast and clean up the water above the bird. Had to patch a little lower right/upper right after rotating to level. Comments welcome and appreciated.

This is really nice Ron. Excellent IQ and I like how the feathers on her side glow a bit.The hint of green iridescence in the wings is something I had not noticed before. Good low angle and as always the water droplets make this image even nicer.Nice still water. Well done,
    Gail

This is a very, very, very, very minor nitpick...the darker wave coming out from the back of
the head...seems a little annoying for me. I'd try to clone some of that out with some of
    the surrounding blue.

That's an interesting observation. Is it the dark front side of the wave that bothers you, or the brownish back side?

I went to PS and gave it a shot (on the brownish back) with the healing brush in lighten mode. It seems possible to do, but I'm not sure I can retain the smoothness that way. I'll play around with it tonight when I have more time.

    Thanks for looking.

If you go from the top of the head, on the right...that dark wave that goes from the head
to the end of the image on the right (there's a darker one about half the size right underneath it).

great low angle, very sharp and nice water drops. a bit more space on the right border isn't bad

I too thought it could use more. Unfortunately that's all I had. When I switch from the D700 to the D7000, I sometimes forget that I'm not going to get more than what I see in the viewfinder. I may give it a try to add a little -- it looks doable to me.
