    Default Barnegat Paint By Numbers

If I could spend the time putting little numbers in the lower half of this image the title might just work . Topaz Simplify with a layer mask and gradient. All thoughts appreciated as always

No problem Paul. From Photoshop I used Topaz simplify version 3. I of course had made a duplicate layer of the original image. with Simplify open I went straight to the edges tab which will show a blank white image. Set edge strength to mono. I then used edge strength till I got a nice line drawing of the original image. I never went back to combined image or base tabs, I just saved directly from the edges tab. I then had a line drawing on one layer and the original on another. With the line drawing layer active, I added a layer mask and set the PS foreground color to black and the background color to white. With the layer mask active I grabbed the gradient and dragged from the upper left corner down diagonally until I revealed the amount of color I wanted. You'll need to experiment with your image. Hope that all makes sense. Can't wait to see your results

Dave, very original and very neat. I used to love paint by numbers when I was a kid.

Dave, I love this one. Nice job with the filtering. You have a great eye for composition and you handled this "busy " scene very well. Thanks for sharing your processing

    Very interesting application, Dave.

I can see other uses for this and look forward to trying it as well.

I absolutely love your image with the simplify and layer mask technique. I would guess that you used a brush instead of the gradient and it worked amazingly for your image. I'm glad that it worked out for you. Mark I'll be interested to see what you come up with also. Thanks again for the comments

Thank you Maureen and Brendon, I hope to see some images posted here with this technique from others. Pauls post above is incredible and shows some of the different uses for the technique.

Thanks for the technique details. I want to try it, too. Must find just the right image. Great idea. With the title, don't think you need to take the time for all the little numbers.....:)
