Canon 7D Canon 500mm f4 L IS & 1.4TC 1, tripod head, ISO 1000 1/800 sec f5.6
Still poor light over here but I had a blast getting shots of nuthatches in the back garden. Trying to capture them on a branch as opposed to on a tree trunk baited with peanuts present a rather different challenge. I noted the flight pattern and very frequently it landed in the same place so I set up accordingly. Then I found there was two of them and the other landed in a different place - sneaky eh? Any how after some perseverance I managed a few.
All C & C welcome.
Stan the ISO is manageable on the 7D and the 50D:-
1. Ensure the image is exposed to the right - even risk a few blinkies here or there as they are more than likely recoverable in ACR.
2. The next thing is to try to ensure cropping is minimal at higher ISO as the noise will otherwise soon become more apparent.
3. I apply NR to the background and a lesser amount (sometimes, not always) to the subject.
4. I use Topaz DeNoise, it is cheap, intuitive and simple - suits me down to the ground!
Hope this helps.
Hi Jon, good leaning pose, sort of like a pre-take off pose. I like how the perch runs diagonally across the image, and covered in bits of lichen here and there. Placement wise, I feel the nuthatch is a bit too central, and maybe you wanted to keep the thick lichen on the right, but I would still take a bit off the RHS. You seem to nail your BG's nicely.
