    Default Snowy Owl Portrait

While most of my photos at Ocean shores were environment photos, I did get close enough (I did not flush it, it never flinched),
to get a few full frame close ups.
This is almost full frame vertical at 420mm.

I love the perch and the owl looks great Dan. Are your Snowy Owl pictures taken in BC, Cnada or somewhere else?

    Wow Dan,
The perch "is the die for". I like the grey and brown tones and somewhat monochromatic look to the image. The vertical comp is perfect. As I type this, the gods of envy are eating away at my soul...how I wish i could see these beauties in real life.
I might increase the saturation in the yellow of the eyes,
    gail

Beautiful bird and perch with lots of character. Agree with Gail on the eyes, and would lighten them a little too. Would also like to see more space around, especially left and top.

You did a great job with this one, Dan, and I agree with Gail on that awesome perch. Would like to see a little more room on the top at least. He appears just a tad cramped. Like the fact the sun is shining in one of his eyes. As much as I love snowies, I think the perch might be making this shot!

All I can say is that this is one of the most elegant snowy owl images that I have seen. Tight, but it works great for me. If this was my image, it would be printed large and admired as often as possible.

Excellent detail and a cool perch. It does feel a little cramped to me, and I wish the eyes were the same size. Can't wait to get back out there!

Thanks for the nice comments, and I agree it is tighter than I wanted, I had to step over driftwood and other debris and not spook the Owl and
the OP is the photo I got.
I cropped some off the bottom, did not do a great job in camera and since I use NX2, I cannot add canvas to the top.
Since most people loved the perch, I thought I would post another from further back, before I crept forward to get the close-up.
You could not stage these any better.
I hope this is alright with the moderators to post another one.

Another beauty Dan! The Exp and detail on the owl is great, I love that all of that awesome perch is in focus and sharp. The bg is perfect. I agree with a little room at the top.

Dan, if you feel it's a little tight, when you print and frame this one, , choose a mat color that is very close to the background. That will give the illusion of a bit more space.

Hi Dan, no problem with your repost, as you have stated its for showing off the great perch everyone is raving about. Good exposure on the snowy, and love the eye contact. I agree brightening the yellows of the eyes will work and make them pop even more.
