A very common bird, but quite beautiful. The background here is water and the brown is a jetty.

I like the whites and the black spots on the nead feathers. like the red eye ring. Not so keen on the square crop.

Hi Grace, lots of detail to look at around the head and beak, and the red eye ring just stands out so well from the whites. I like the pose, exposure, and the BG works for me.

Beautiful capture very elegant, the tight crop is a very good idea. I am a little unsure regards the composition, perhaps a tad less to the right and a tad more to the left would help??

Love the colors and details, and that BG really pops. The little feathers around the beak add a lot. Would have liked to see the gull looking a tad toward you instead of away, but understand we are working with subjects that have a mind of their own. Not sure about the square crop.

I agree they are quite pretty. I really like the bg and great detail in head feathers.

The whites are just beautiful. Light, exposure and the bg are great. I too think a crop from the right would work very well, but do love it as presented.

Very nice, intimate portrait. The head is almost parallel to the sensor and that will make Artie almost happy!!I think your beautiful gull images are becoming your trademark bird! The image works well because the 3 primary colors( red, yellow, blue) add a lovely contrast to the nicely exposed whites. I have always like square crops, so this suits my taste.
No nits from me on this shot,
    Gail

Beautiful pose and sense of intimacy. Usually not a fan of square crops, but I think it works well here. As usual, great IQ and excellent exposure, Grace. You do have a real talent for highlighting the beauty in what many might consider commonplace; I think that is a real gift and something I myself strive for.

Lovely shot. Great preening pose, exposed perfectly, detail is superb, and I really like the background.
    Well done.
