Default Horned Grebe - Down the Barrel

    Attached Images Attached Images

To my great joy, several Horned Grebes in winter plumage have been hanging around Hillsborough and Pinellas County this winter. For this capture, I was low in Tampa Bay in waders with my my new 500 on a tripod. The waters were treacherous b/c of the oyster beds and depressions in the sand at low tide. This is the day Cheryl went down with all her gear.

I love the way the Grebe is looking directly at me and its eyes are symmetrical. I had a difficult time deciding on this crop. Now that I am looking at it on the monitor, I am thinking some off of the left but figured I would ask the viewers for their thoughtful advice.

Thank you in advance for your C & C.

    Hi Marina,
I like the comp as is and wouldn't touch a thing. I love the light and the blues in the water and BG but what I like the most is the direct gaze. No nits from me,
    Gail

I love this image, Marina. Super low angle, the water looks soft as satin. Those eyes are killer. Light and exposure look great.
    Congrats on the new lens.

In the water with waders, way to go. Awesome work ethic and a fantastic image to show for it.

The water is lovely and the gaze over the top.

Hi Marina, just love the eye contact from those red eyes, and getting into the water has paid off nicely to get this angle. Comp wise, I would place the grebe centrally, so a little off the right will work. Exquisite light.

Yup, this was the day but we did get some great images before I went down and this one shows it. I really love the dreamy water and when I stare long enough at it I am thinking I am still rockin from my Hooptie Deux trip LOL. Great straight on look with those killer red eyes. Can't wait for some more.

Great image Marina! I like the low angle, eye contact, exposure and water. Nice to have had the opportunity to meet you at Fort Desoto.

Hi Marina, nice low head on shot of this guy. Those waders came in handy for this shot.

Marina, what a shot. great stuff...the low angle, the eyes, the water, light. If mine, I'd take some of from the right side...and reduce the contrast a bit. congrats on new gear. We are going to see some amazing images.
