I took a trip to St. Catharines to hopefully see an overwintering adult male King Eider. It was my first birding trip of the winter and proved successful. Also managed to see some Fish Crows (to some this may not be a big deal but to see them in Ontario is extremely rare) near Port Erie.
The Eider was tough to see with binoculars but was easily seen using a telescope (wished I'd had a digiscoping setup) . Not easy to photograph, it was over 2 football fields away across the Welland Canal. The 500 did its best but all I got were ID images nothing worth keeping. It was ABA Bird 629 that I've photographed. Slowly getting to 650 .
The image above is from my files, taken at the Biodome in Montreal, Canada. It really shows the beauty of these Eiders and why their so sought after. The Biodome is a great place to photograph captive birds in natural surroundings.
I ran this through the free version of Pixel Bender / Oil Painting...thanks for looking
