You've posted some great Snowy shots, but this one isn't working for me. The clam shell is interesting and I don't mind most of the grass, but the big blade just below the bird's head pretty well spoils the image for me. Also I would have liked the bird more to the right in the frame. I'm hoping to make it out there for one last encounter with the Snowy Owls. I'll let you know if I'm going to be there (my wife will probably be joining me).

Doug, thanks for the comment, I thought people may not like this one, but I gave it a try.
I do have better, but thought it was interesting for the "beach scene"
Let me know if you decide to come back. Your wife would love it. If you are, you probably better come soon, I can't believe they are going to stay much longer, if they are going back?
The second day i was there, it was better weather and a holiday weekend, there were literally hundreds of people out among the Owls.
Hard to believe this is not stressing them out, but they didn't seem to mind.
We got the last room in town, so many tourists, families and birders besides photographers are going to Ocean Shores.
The Chamber of Commerce must love this!

I am not crazy about this one Dan. The grass just under the face is the problem. The others are OK. I see why you like the clam shell as I do too. I like the low perspective as well. I also like the perch and the BG. Show us more,

I like this one, grass and all. The grass for me gives it a bit of context and makes the owl look like it is part of its surroundings. The clam shell adds a little something. I think it's a beautiful shot.

it is a beauty Dan, I love the pose, enviroment, details and the clam shell. I agree with Doug about the big grass crossing below the head, it draws the attention from viewer too much. If you must keep this image you can remove it using the content-aware brush in CS5. should be easy...

    great work

I too am fine with both the grass and the comp. In fact I'm enjoying the habitat depicted here. Of course, if you removed that blade of grass I wouldn't miss it ;)

I've come back to this one threee times today and am sticking with my original thought which was positive. I love the shell and the head and eyes of the owl hold so much interest that I jump right over the grass and linger on his (or her?) fine head. The habitat is really interesting. I probably would eliminate the v-shaped grasses in the top left corner as their shape looks out of place.

Wonderful shot. I really like the grass except for that one large blade. The clam adds interest, great pose and detail.
    Well done.

I don't mind the grass or the clam, however it might have appealed a bit more without the grass, however I understand its hard to get certain shots. I find the overall shot a bit dark and the blacks not black enough particularly on the body. I would have lightened the eyes a touch. I find the proportion of the body and head slightly off (both too wide) and wonder if there was some additonal pp done that might affect that. Like the sharpness.

Peter, nice work, I attempted to do it after the comments, but gave up.
I like it without, although I didn't mind it with the grass. It looked like the scene I saw.
Very windy and grass blowing in front of these Surreal owls in the beach dunes.
    Thanks for taking the time.
