    Default Burrowing Owl

With only a week to spend in SW Florida last month, and so many places to shoot, I only gave myself a few hours in Cape Coral for the owls. Although I got to the library at sunrise, I wasted lots of good light searching for one of these little guys, until a local photographer showed up and coaxed this one out of his burrow. I couldn't get a shot without a lot of oof foreground at his feet and lower body, so I resorted to a crop. Next trip maybe I'll get a better one, but I'm glad that at least I didn't come away empty-handed. C&C appreciated.

Hi Bill, I will take this any day. I like your choice of comp, good eye level capture, and nicely separated from the BG. Sometimes the FG or BG blending into the subject works well.

Thanks Stuart. I agree that sometimes an oof foreground can work. There have been some lovely ones posted recently, like KD's owls with the flower foregrounds. Unfortunately this wasn't one of them.

Great looking owl, and nice capture, Bill! Love the eyes, and wonderful marking patterns on feathers. Vertical comp works well.

Bill, I like the composition. unless FG blur is really smooth, it doesn't work well. I guess a good call here. love those eyes....so much character.
