Default Blushing Bandit - Bohemian Waxwing.

A Bohemian Waxwing seemingly blushes in the cold winter air as it ponders which bush to go raid…

I encountered a huge flock of 100+ of these birds here in Ottawa a couple of weekends ago. Arguably the prettiest “winter” bird we get.

Canon 7D + 100-400L @260mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/500s., f/6.3, ISO 800 (settings histogram checked), natural light, handheld, just about FF, a few branches removed at the edges via clone and patch tools, and some others in the center BG toned down via clone tool and dodge tool.

A beautiful species indeed. Love your exposure and comp. The color is also magnificent. Wish the oof branch wasn't running through the bird.

Hi, Daniel. I really like the mood you've created here -- very pleasing. While I do agree about the branch Joe mentioned, I think the image definitely still works. The framing is very nice as well.

Beautiful Daniel. I still don't have a shot of one of these. Ilike the diagonal perch, the snow and the colors of the bird especially that you got the yellow on the tail.

You're really nailing these beautiful waxwings. Lovely bird, lovely shot. Nice colors and comp, and I don't particularly mind the oof branch.

Love it, Daniel...cold wintry feel with that beautiful pop of color. I'm fine with the habitat.

    Daniel:

Excellent exposure of a beautiful bird, like the sense of framing.

Their plumage always looks so soft, delicate.

The branch behind the bird is so soft, it doesn't bother me. I might however try a version with the branch pointing towards the breast removed.

    A beauty.

    Cheers

    Hi Daniel,
Love the IQ of the bird and the environmental feel but I would definetely clone out the branch going through the bird. My eye keeps going to it. I like the dried up berries and the direct gaze
