Northern Saw-whet Owl
Probably my favorite image of 2011. I lucked out when an overly aggressive chickadee pecked this guy on the head, forcing it out of its hiding spot in a cedar tree and onto this wide open branch...at eye-level no less.
Canon 7D + 100-400L @320mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/100s., f/7.1, ISO 800, flash @ -0.7 FEC, handheld (lens braced against the side of a tree), FF.
