    Default Purple Finch

    Just getting used to my new acquisition, a 300 2.8 AF-S 1 - non-VR.

D3, ISO 800, 600 mm, 5.6, cropped with a bit of sharpening added.

Congrats on the new acquisition, Gizzo.
Very nice pose and eye contact. Sharp where it counts.
To improve this image further, I would give the bird more room in the frame (if possible), do a bit of shadows/highlights &/ contrast adjustment to give the bird a bit more pop.
    What was your shutter speed?
    Looking forward to more.

Always fun to play around with new equipment eh! Nice "in-your-face" pose, but a bit too big in the frame IMO. I would also have preferrerd just a bit more DOF to at least get the front foot sharp too, but then the BG OOF stick would be a bit more evident too. You could get rid of the smaller of the two catchlights.

Good luck with your new lwns...looking forward to more images taken with it.

P.S. This looks like a House Finch to me. Purple Finch is a more "raspberry" colour and has less of a curve on the bill.

Thanks for the nice comments and advice. The SS is 1/2000. I didn't even notice that 2nd catchlight Daniel. Thanks for pointing that out. It could well be a House Finch.

Here is the edited version and thanks again:
