Hi Gail, good eye contact from the Osprey, and overall well exposed on him too. The Osprey is nice and sharp, and I like the waves in the BG, together with the flying droplets from the bathing behaviour. If this were mine, I would move the osprey just slightly back to the right a touch, and maybe a little off the top.

I like this kind of dynamic shots. My wife is crazy about baithing birds; shoots them all.
Composition wise it would probably be better to move the bird a bit to the right, out from the almost centered location.
Other then that it is an excellent picture, Gail.

    Gail:

Although I see Osprey fishing all the time, haven't had the opportunity to see them bathing, neat! Plus to be doing it in a pretty wavy body of water, double neat.

I agree about moving him to the right.

The light angle was well off to the right, although fairly soft. If you haven't already, I would dodge the breast and shadowed side of the face a bit to bring it up a bit. Won't take much. I tried it an liked the result.

    Cheers

Great capture Gail. Eye contact is perfect. You can lighten up the breast and inside wing feathers as well as the left side of the head with some dodge/burn, to reduce the effect of the light angle from the right.

Thanks Clemens and Randy and Stuart,
Have done as you have directed. I like the result ( even though it is about a 40% crop now)

A very nice unusual photo of these guys.
It looks happy in the rinse cycle!

This is so cool Gail! I cant imagine him lifting off out of the water when he is so soaked. I like your repost even better.

I see snowbirds aren't the only ones enjoying Florida beaches in February!! Reposts work well. Neat dynamic bathing action.

I too have a personal cropping threshold like you do, but sometimes it is worth pushing it when the IQ holds up...

Excellent shot. The expression on its face is priceless. I really like the small waves and the repost is better.
    Well done.
