I noticed this single Oystercatcher yesterday on a sandbar with some plovers and sandpipers--first sighting this year. C&C appreciated!

Cathy, well composed and exposed shot of the bird in flight. I like the colours and the wing position. I'd remove the bright spots on the left hand side edge.

I like the capture too, nice use of fast shutter speed and impressive sharpness with a 2X converter.

The detail in blacks is nice but I think the white patch on the wing is too hot, don't know if it's totally clipped or not but you might try recovering some detail there.

I agree with removing the light spots in the BG, I also might consider cropping a bit from the top.

Nice image. Very impressive image, made more so by your lens and TC which must have been tricky to maneuver.

    Kathy,
Pretty sharp image for using a 2x TC. Agree with above on removing bright spots and the crop on the top. Very good details on the dark wings. whites are not completely blown, but lack detail. Great capture though.

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions. This weekend was the first time with the new lens and I was just trying to get the feel of it, but was pretty happy with the images. I'm getting the impression that using that lens with the 2.0 tc doesn't usually produce such sharp BIF images--I guess I got lucky. I plan to get the 1.7 tc and use that predominantly while on the boat.

    Nice job, Cathy!

Excellent exposure and detail and great flight angle and eye contact!
