Default 3000 th post - Black legged kittiwake

    Attached Images Attached Images

Well, 3,000 give or take a few. This image is from a pelagic trip that I took end of January off the coast of Long Island. A black legged kittiwake was a new species for me and I was disappointed when I saw this image on the back of the camera because the left wing as viewed was slightly curled and there was a shadow of another bird across it. I gave a lot of thought to what I wanted to do about it and by using alot of the tips that I have learned here, I replaced the left wing. I like it best when things work perfectly and I get what I want in-camera, but sometimes it just doesn't happen, so why not use all the crayons in my crayon box.

Thank you for looking, for your helpful comments and critiques along the way.

Congrats on your 3,000th+ post Grace! And well done in the post-processing department. I might move the bird down a smidge in the frame. Otherwise excellent!

    Grace:

    Congrats on the milestone!

I really like the lighting, sharpness, exposure here. Well done on the repair. I wouldn't have noticed.

Have appreciated your strong sense of style/composition. I don't always agree, but always consider your thoughts carefully!

Looking forward to the next 3000!

    Cheers

A big congratulations Grace! I am most impressed with your PP skills. I tried very hard to see where the "join " was but cannot see it. Tack sharp and great IQ. Agree about moving him down in the frame. Very nice tail fan and symmetry,
Thanks for all your help and I wish you 3000 more posts,
    Gail

Hi Grace, big congrats on your milestone, and Im sure you will go on to many more. Excellent exposure and sharpness, and I do like the in flight pose, HA, and the outspread wings and fanned tail. Great pp work, and Im fine with the placement as is.

The favorite color in the crayon box in this case is white. Amazing work. The post processing work is stunning as you describe it. When you say the "left wing" of the bird, it is actually the right as viewed. This should be a constant and hope it's the case.

    Big congrats, Grace !

What a beauty ! When I see it, all I can think of is 'perfect balance.'

I think the comp is perfection. Position in the frame is ideal. I wouldn't wish to see it dead-centered.

Great image and excellent PP. work, Grace. If you had not mentioned the wing transplant, I wouldn't have noticed it.

Congratulations on many counts: great shot of this species!!; fantastic crayon work, which is undetectable to my eye!!; and the milestone post!! I like the comp as posted, with the extra room below the bird.
