I just completed my Florida trip, came home at 2:00 AM today.
I have over seven thousand frames, probably most of it will go the the recycle bin.
This part is the one I like the least: weed them out.
Here is a picture from Fort DeSoto, taken one early morning.
    Thanks for looking.

I always like a wing stretch! Nice low angle. Nice soft BG. I would sharpen the head a bit more, looks a bit soft around the eye. Critical focus looks like it was on the shoulder/wing area. I would also add a bit of selective color in the neutrals to give it some punch. I like the little foot sticking out from under the wing,
    Gail

    Thanks, Gail.
Good observation with the active focus. I had to move the active focus square to the left to include the wing stretch.
I have a botton on the camera programmed freeze focus, but it doesn't work very vwell with an object that moves too much.
I also can move the active focus to the left and right with thomb dial, wich is an other good feature on your new, camera.

excellent pose and nicer soft light, agree about critical focus being on the wing instead of head. You cannot lock focus for conditions like this, need to put the active AF point on the head in servo mode.

Thanks, Arash. That's all I use; AI servo mode all the time. Hovewer with my thomb, I can push a botton on the back which is programmed to freeze the autofocus.
I do it simetimes to recompose as otherwise the subject would be cut when it moves. I'll post a couple of Great Egret shots from Venice later to show how much the head moves when it dances on the nest. It is fun to watch. ( I never use anything else than AI servo in order to be ready to for "action")

What a great pose you've captured. On my monitor it feels a bit bright, give Gail's idea a try. I could stand a bit more room at the bottom and try sharpening the head a bit more. Good luck going through all those images....I look forward to seeing some of them.

The focus recompose method does not work when the dof is shallow like here. Just compose and put the appropriate AF sensor on the head as subject moves move the camera while maintaining original composition...

Hi Karl, good low angle, and well timed to capture the wing stretch. I like the varied colours we can see on the wing, and overall exposure looks good from here. Comp wise, I would add a touch to the bottom and left, and maybe take a bit off the top.
