Sheffield Mills, Nova Scotia, early Feb. The eagles are attracted to chicken carcasses at "feeders" , and there are usually about 100 eagles around the field, and about 100 photographers taking pictures of them. It was snowing lightly. This year the birds spent most of the time sitting around in the trees, but occasionally forayed low over the field.

    D7000, 300 f/4 AF-S + 1.7TC. ISO 800, 1/1250, f/6.7.

PP - Some cropping, sharpening, levels, Noise Ninja. I removed some space between the bird and the snow that was present in the original. I left the weeds sticking out of the snow to give a bit more detail to an otherwise rather blank white area.

    Richard:

I like the head on pose, gear down, good fill 'flash' off the snow, colors in BG, and weeds in the snow, for the reason you mentioned.

I can see some irregularity in the top of the snow line, probably from your post work.

Can't say I have ever heard of Chicken 'feeders' before.

    Cheers

Great pose and the snow adds some great light to the underwings. There is significant artifacting at the snow line. I would forget about the snow below, crop it out and just focus on the bird and you can keep the space you removed.

agree with Gail. those artifacts are pretty obvious. otherwise, a splendid image....the pose, the shooting angle, the BG, exposure. looks great.

    Hi,

    Here's a re-post, incorporating Gail's suggestion - I cropped it above the snow-line.

    Thanks for the comments.
