Hi Jonathan, I think this works better in composition compared to the previous one and if you apply RoT's (Rule of Thirds) and crop slightly on the height to make it pano, then bingo. Although is it me, or does the FG grasses look sharper than the subject?

Wonderful image with fantastic eye contact. I, too, wondered if the grass is more in focus than the owl. Would a little more USM on the bird help?

it is a very beautiful environment and light, too bad the owl was OOf. try to keep the focus point on the bird.

Love the image design. Looks pretty darned close to being sharp enough to sell. For the repost I selectively applied a contrast mask to the bird only via a Hide-All mask, added a bit of overall contrast, and lost the three seed heads below the owl.

Nice environmental presentation which shows the habitat very well. The contrast mask in Artie's repost brings back the sharpness on the bird. I would crop a little of the left side but are okay with the image dimensions as presented.

Thanks very much for the feedback everyone, much appreciated. The owl probably appears a little soft due to the weather conditions, it was very dull and misty. I attach a screen grab shot to show the conditions......and the AF point for Arash
Artie, thanks very much for taking time to modify, it really does make a difference, I will make a similar modification as you describe.
Steve, the crop dimensions came this way because of the position in the original image, I didn't want to add canvas and content aware fill.

Jon, the issue here was that the owl was too far/small in the frame and there is not enough AF coverage...you needed the owl to be at least two times larger in the frame so that the head fully covers the AF sensor:)

Agreed Arash - no problem there, but in mitigation not too bad. I guess these owls just have not read the rule book whereby they come close, the light is good....... and I nail the focus.

    Hi Jon,
From what it looks like the owl was flying towards you, were you able to get any frames when he was closer?

No that was as close as I got him that day, it is a couple of years since I got decent sized images.
