Another image from Vancouver.. this one was taken at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary where my friend Jess Findlay found this guy.. it took me a while to find a good shooting angle!
You have a nice environmental capture here, Alfredo. There is a monochromatic feel to this. That said, I do not feel that the colors of the owl are accurately depicted here. Maybe your BO up there look different than the ones we have down here in Florida. For me the bird needs a boost in SAT. Maybe your intent was to have it blend in with its environment.
I'm wondering about a vertical presentation with more room above and below the owl. It does feel a bit flat overall. You did great getting the owl in the clear and I love the sleepy feel to this image.
I'm OK with the comp, and I like the winter forest feel and look to the image, but I think it could uses a boost in contrast (and yes to a bit of saturation too). Not much you could do about it but I wish the branch was not broken off (well, perhaps a vertical would help with that). I also wish the head was turned slightly more towards us so we could see a bit of the far eye. Still a very appealing image, and a scene that I hope to come across soon locally.
I like the comp and the tree (not to mention the owl). I agree it would be better if we could see the far eye. More contrast, saturation, and/or tweaking the levels to add some blacks, might help remove the washed out look. I actually find the broken off branch sort of interesting, but I suppose it does take the eye away from the owl.
I likes this one a lot. terrific BG. A round of sharpening on the bird will help IMO. this shows how they blend with the surroundings so well. Well done.
Agree with most of the above, especially the positives. Perhaps simply pulling down the curve a bit would improve this greatly as it is simply too light overall as I am viewing it here.
