This bird has been introduced to California, Hawaii, and Florida and lives natively in southern asia. There is a well-established flock at the LA Arboretum. Difficult to photograph as they don't come out in the open very often, but winter is a good time to try as the leaves are all gone... A very large crop from the 1D4, but I said I was going to post one of these even if the IQ wasn't the best. Cloned out some branches.

    1D4, 400mm f/5.6
    Manual mode, f/5.6@1/800, ISO 800 WB 5100K
AI Servo autofocus, HH, no flash

Jack, many species of birds are introduced accidentally when ornamental (pet) birds are imported for human amusement. They often escape and establish feral colonies. Southern California has quite a few species in this category, including the parrots and parakeets that are found quite widely in the area.

Kerry, this reminds me of the parrots of Telegraph Hill in San Francisco (there is a book and a video about them). There is quite a colony of these conure parrots in the city. Nice photo.

    Hi Kerry,
Nice bird and a nice capture. IQ looks good to me. good sharpness desp[ite the crop. I like the way it is placed on the branch that is diagonal. whites look good. Only thing that distracts my attention is th eleaf in the bottom. I can see that it is hard to remove it.

Thanks everybody! Ronald, I have seen the video. I would love to adopt a flock myself!
