Default Biting off more than you can chew!

5.44pm and just prior to their Puku attack.
(agree that quality is not first class but submitted for drama alone)

Once again the Nsefu pride try and take on anything that moves this particular evening.
Needless to say, this scuffle didn't last long once the hippo made for water, but is was enthralling to witness! I love the eye contact between the two.

    D700 70-200VRII 1/500s f/4 ISO3200 @ 200mm. 30% crop. Nsefu sector, Luangwa river Sth Luangwa NP- Zambia Nov 2011.

    C & C most welcome

    Cheers
    Marc

Marc - great action and feeling of tension. You're right about the eye contact. Looks like the light was not on your side as there's some noise on the animals but the compelling action far outweighs any nit. What kicked up the mud in the middle?

Marc I would try cropping literally just below the dark stones coming in from the LHS.

    Marc,

Nice moment captured here, if you are not a Hippo

Personally I would go for a pano, eliminating the top down to the sandbank, and a little from the bottom.

I think it was from the large stick near the hippo that continues and disappears below the sand ridge where the lion on the right has flicked it.

They were both mature females here Ed, the cubs weren't far away of course.

The IQ is not the quality of most of yours, but this is a very cool photo.
    Great action and worth posting.

I did not know that lions would go for hippos. This is a very interesting image issues pointed out aside. Is this an adult hippo or a young one?
