Same bull elephant as previously posted but a short time earlier. Because the light wasn't hitting his eye, I had no compunction about converting to b&w. Interested in comments on the comparison although I feel they show completely different moods in the elephant.

I like the conversion, with the contrast of darks through to lights. I would tempted to perhaps blow out the RHS completely.

For me, the image does not convey 'in your face' as the other image did. I think this is probably due to the higher shooting angle, which for me, does not portray the size and dominance (compared to us) of our largest terrestial mammal.

Thanks Russell, you've tapped into a conversation my husband and I had. Interestingly, both photos were taken from the same relative position but my husband also thought the pov was different. So I wonder why it gives a different perspective? Interesting, thanks for the feedback. Maybe I'll look at burning the darker side some more.

Hilary - I immediately had the same thought that you had somehow been up higher for this shot. I much prefer the other shot. This one doesn't have the same warmth or intimacy. I do like the conversion here and the texture.

Hi Hilary, sorry another vote for the previous one. Personally I find it too contrasty, it doesn't convey the impact of the previous image, however if you want to pursue it more, I would agree with Russell on blowing out the BKG.

I like the first post more. More "drama" and I like the perspective more than in the B&W one.

Excellent, we are all of the same opinion and it reinforces why I chose the first image. Thanks everyone, that's been most helpful.

Had the left side not been in the shadows, I would have preferred this one.
Just not enough detail there in this one, though.
