    Default Short Eared Owl

Wanted to share my first image of a bird on this forum. This image is really special and close to my heart as I waited close to 12 hours just to click this species. Quite an amazing experience.

    Image specs:
    Canon 7d + 300 f4 +1.4x tc II
    SS 1/500
    Av 7.1
    EV 0
    ISO 400

    Thanks

    Supreet:

A big welcome to BPN! A great place to learn and grow as a nature photographer.

A lovely owl image, with nice exposure, great eye contact, effective lighting.

I would consider a vertical version of this as his pose and eye contact would work well with that, if your IQ will hold up with the tighter crop.

Interesting how soft the chest feathers are, despite the adequate shutter speed, and sharp eyes.

    Look forward to more!

    Cheers

Outstanding first post Supreet! Welcome to BPN! Love it for all the reasons that Randy mentioned. Love those big yellow eyes.

Wonderful engaging owl Supreet! That stare captivates me. I agree that an alternative crop would make the image even stronger.

Thank you all, an overwhelming welcome to this wonderful forum.
Randy thanks for the inputs, i have a vertical with a different pose in the same situation. I chose this compo for various reasons, most importantly to avoid the loss of details due to a larger crop as you said plus I have got into this habit of capturing more habitat along with the actual bird.

The softness on the feathers on the chest was something that even im surprised and not too happy about but do not have enough info.

    Thanks again
