Default Grey Falcon - A rare species of falcon.

7D, 500mm, 1/640 @ 6.3, 400iso, +1 EV - the bird was sitting in the shade - I did not have a flash - and has been eating something as is has a stain down its front.

The first year I went to inland Australia I did not see one - on the last day of my trip last year we got lucky if only for 15 minutes. It was a real bonus to have this bird sitting in a tree and being quite calm with us around. The Grey Falcon is a bird with maybe 1000 breeding pairs in australia - their distribution is inland arid Australia - think lots of space with not a lot of human occupation. They are not easily seen or predictable in where you may see them. So it was a thrill to hear some one call out 'grey falcon' and I had brought my camera along just in case - we were at the time doing bird surveys and I would usualy leave my camera behind and take binoculars instead. This was taken last year.

    Thanks, Tom.

Nice image Tom! I like the interesting perch and details. The angle is a little steep and the sun spots on the body are a little distracting. I am sure you are happy to have a record of this rare bird and I would be too.

This is more about recording a species than artistic merit - well it was at the time. My only clear shot was possble by coming close and therefore the angle is steep - there were a lot of branches and leaves in the way.

Wow, congratulations on finding this beauty. I like the perch and yellow colors stand out well. I agree about it being steep.

Even though the brach is quite big for the bird's grip, it has some nice textures and color. I do find the steep shooting angle a bit bothering but since this is a rare specimen, then is fine with me!

I am not familiar with this species but I see a slight magent cast on the bird.

Handsome looking raptor good exposure, the main issue is the steep angle. It's tough to get raptors to perch on a low angle most of the time
