    Default Hello world

    Attached Images Attached Images

    40D. 400 f5.6L at f/6.3. iso 400. 1/640s. almost full-frame.

I had gone early morning for shots like this. You'll see from the catchlight that the sun is just above the horizon.

the bird being an owl, I could keep f-stop at f/6.3 and still keep everything needed within DOF. helped me get the nice FG blur. For any other bird, one needs to stop down for more DOF coverage when shooting head-on at such close distance. I'd have liked green Fg but too many bald patches there.

good thing about such cooperative subjects is that you can spend an hr and come home with 15 different compositions.

    All comments welcome.

I really like this one Kaustubh! The sharp owl surrounded by OOF background/foreground really make the owl stand out. A real beauty!

I like the slightly off center composition and the ultra low POV. Very nice light as well. Can we trade some bald eagle time for some burrowing owl time?!

Great composition, Kaustubh. I really like the OOF for-and background and the whole setting. Nice feather details as well.

Nice low angle and OOF surroundings. Feel like I'm being challenged to a staring contest

Love the killer light, the stare, the sharpness. And the low angle. I think that there are several better compositions there than this centered one; I wouldn't mind seeing the bird upper or lower right.

Killer light, comp and colors. Excellent use of fg and bg to create a soft feel against which those eyes look even more intense. Superbly done.

Hi KD, this works for me, and just the right amount of DOF where it counts. I do like the warm colours from the early morning light, and how are those eyes. Very well captured. Before Gail swops time with you, wanna swop time for Kingfishers.
