Default Face to face with a predator

This Eurasian kestrel is in the act of finishing his diner on a black field vole.
I stalked the bird by crawling on my knees first and then applying the “army crawl” with all body parts down while holding the camera in my hands. The bird allowed an approach of about 15 feet.
I took a number of images and because of the eye contact, this is one of my favourites. Hope you like it too!

Hi Christian, 15feet is 5m in my books, so thats pretty close to have captured this fellow, and getting the eye contact before flying away. Excellent low angle as described, and I like the colours in the BG. On top of the image, I would try a blend in the lighter area, or crop down a touch. I do like the single blade of grass on the RHS.

Very nice setting and an intimate look at this raptor. Side light has caused a very interesting effect.
I too would crop a bit from the top and add a touch of contrast.

Nice low angle shot of the facon - good details and nice warm colors! I personally would crop bit furher down until the white part in the background is not visible anymore!

excellent shot. I always love such low angles with FG blur. agree that you have the bird a bit higher in the frame. great feel.

Kestrels aren't easy to get close to. So great job. I thnk some additional sharpening of teh bird will help.

BTW, I also shoot with 400f5.6L. we have a few here but not that many. looking forward to more of your shots. And Holger's as well. We dont have many contributors from Germany....so it will be great to see some stuff from there.
