Some of the perches at Mankwe in the Pilanesburg National Park are pretty close to the hide. The sun was still rising when these two Pied Kingfishers perched in front of me and were feeding each other. I removed a branch behind the KF on the left. The BG is water.

Nice timing on the handoff Stuart. The blue BG is a great compliment for the birds and perch.

    Hi Stu,
I really like the interaction and the fact that the HA is so good in both birds. I also like how each bird has an outstretched wing. The light on the perch is nice as well.I wonder what this would look like as a black and white?

Thanks Gail. Great idea on trying B&W. I will definitely convert one.

Thanks to Steve and Arash for your feedback too.

Gail had a great idea of trying this in B&W. I have used one of the custom presets in Silver Efex Pro 2. Your thoughts between the OP and B&W.

I really like both Stuart. I am not loving the vignetting in the conversion but otherwise really like it. I am in the mood for "different" these days so I am going with the repost minus vignetting as my favorite!!

Fantastic interaction, lovely light and comp. Your images are always perfectly sharp.
I too am enjoying the repost but I'm with Gail on the vignetting.

Note to self: Move Pilansberg NP to the top on the bucket list :)

Stu - you really nailed this one what a great shot, the more I look the more I like it. The detail in the blacks and whites - spot on!
The B&W is OK, but to be honest I would prefer a straightforward B&W conversion in Photoshop, I am rather cynical about all these add on plugin jobbies (excepting Noise Reduction)!

Hi Stuart, great interaction captured here. I still need to get decent shots of these guys. Beautiful light and exposure nicely done. I do like both versions but find the B&W very effective. TFS.

Thanks a stack for the feedback on the OP everyone, and the honest feedback on the B&W version. I agree, there are many ways to create a B&W image, and its fun doing it.

Stuart, you nailed this one...has it all...wow factor, poses, exposure, moment, light, details, DOF. I liked the conversion as well. very artsy. this hide really does deliver especially with talented photographers like yourself to exploit the opportunities.

    Stuart:

Excellent timing, good poses, fish pass a real plus, clean BG, all good.

I like the B&W, with less vignetting for me also.

    Well done.

    Cheers
