Default Running out of Wildlife Images....

    Attached Images Attached Images

There were more Antarctic Fur Seal pups on South Georgia than any of the experienced folks could remember. I was so into the penguins, however, that I barely created any images of them. These two were just too cute to pass up.... Fortuna Bay, South Georgia Island. With the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens and the 1.4X III TC (handheld at140mm) with the EOS-5DMark II. ISO 400. Evaluative metering +1 stop: 1/1000 sec. at f/7.1.

Don't be shy; all honest comments welcome.

There is lots more on my Southern Oceans trip stuff here and in the last BAA Bulletin here. (You will find a belated but positive review of the 5D II by scrolling down after clicking on the first link.)

Love the look of innocence here Artie, good eye contact also, I gather mum's weren't too far away?

This one brought a smile to my face! 10 out of 10 for cuteness factor. Love the flippers and the way the 2 seals are snuggled up to each other. Great eye contact and detail in the fur,
    Gail

The mom's are usually away from the young, far away as they are out fishing, often for days at a time and I believe for a week or more. Most of the pups that we saw were on their own.

Open slather for predators I guess Artie? Wonder what their survival rate is?

Hey Marc, The only predators are Orcas and they do not get on land much in most places. I would imagine that starvation is the biggest factor in their survival. No clue what the survival rate is but I am pretty sure that they are doing fabulously well after almost being hunted to extinction for their fur.

Artie - Big cuteness factor here and I really like the slightly cocked head of the one on the left. It gives them an inquisitive look. Techs as usual are spot on.

Thanks Rache, I should have mentioned that Detail Extractor from Nik's Color Efex Pro 4 did wonders on the dark tones here. Applied judiciously of course. See more here.

Cute little guys Arthur , filled with curiosity and nicely captured. I like the detail you have brought out in the fur considering the brightness of the BG.

Priceless expressions here. Postcard material - love those eyes.
Well exposed and the fur is just the right sharpness.
