Pelicans Descending
Hi All,
Not Sure whether I should post it here or in the OOB forum.
Saw a Flock of pelicans descend after I left after waiting for them a long time. Before I headed back that way I stopped and shot and I never saw them again that day. Got only 1 shot before they disappeared behind a tree.
7D, 100-400 @ 400mm, ISO 400, 5.6 1/4000, Almost full frame. PP in LR....(playing around with the sliders I stopped here).

IMO this belongs in this forum, it is not OOB to me. I like the composition and colored background. The subjects placement is different and the corner to corner framing provides image balance. Very original perspective on nature well done.
You stopped the slider before the image became too dark and remember adjusting exposure can introduce noise and affect IQ. Thanks for posting, keep em coming.
Exposure techs are solid and the FF image is always a plus. Were you in manual or AV mode. When shooting against a bright light source (sky) remember the meter will move towards mid-gray. Adjustments of adding 1.5 stops of light +/- (1.0) can help balance the meter - just a reminder. Was the sky bright, what time was the picture taken.

Thanks so much Jeff. the better part of this image is that I saw it to be like this when I shot it. I was excited that I could arrive to this in PP, its rare that I can achieve that

Amol,
Yes, it is always special when the photographer visualizes a shot and is able to share that specific vision - well done.

THanks Jeff... :)
And I just realized that I wrote "PIlicans" instead of "PElicans". And I cant even see an Edit tab for it.

Hi Amol, I fixed the thread title for you, no worries. I would love to see this image larger - you can post up to 1024 wide. I love pelican shots like this (I posted one in OOTB recently) and you did a great job on this one. I would evict the individualist in the upper right who didn't get the memo about the flight path.
I think your exposure is spot on and in fact is the formula I use for white birds in bright sun. I like the color of the sky and think this image could be posted in either forum and be well-received. I am very fond of OOTB... Good job!

Thanks So much Kerry. Thanks for fixing the embarrassing typo. And for The great words. I, myself didnt like one in the center and in the RTC. you are right I guess they were napping when others were being briefed....lol But I like to keep the PP at the minimum and generally dont like adding or removing from the image unless its absolutely necessary.
The image is size 1029 at the longer end. BUt I think its my website template thats keeping it from displaying bigger.....I will try to fix that if I could have/find the controls.
Iam gonna try to find your Pelican shot from OOB.
Thanks again
