    Jim:

The soft light gave your image a lovely range of tones, no dark shadows, the diagonal pose gives it some sense of action, sharp, great eye contact.

I might try further toning down some of the bg branches, but this is an excellent photo as posted.

Hope to see more of this attractive fellow!

    Cheers

This must be the famed Kingsville g.g. owl? I almost went to visit the long-staying visitor but was afraid of the circus around there...the bird made all the papers and everything! Moving on, your shot is lovely, soft and supple light, sweet BG, great colors. Or, colours.

    Jim:

I had a minute, so did a slight variation on your image, toning down the BG a bit more. I used a multiply blend layer on the BG only, to tone that down slightly. It does have a slightly different feel to it, and may not be to your taste but thought it was worth a look.

    Excellent image!

    Cheers

Thanks Kaustubh and Jack for your comments. Jack yes this is the King of Kingsville. It was an incredible experience. I only went one day and came home with a lot of keepers.

What a great shot Jim. I love how his body creates a diagonal line. Love the light and no shadows. I prefer the OP,

Nice portrait and I like Randy's repost, but the comp, pose and perch are really good.

Ah, the famous bird that vacated the day before I returned to Canada! One of the nicer shots I have seen Jim. Love the perch and angular pose. The face appears a bit over-sharpened to my eye.

This is about as good as they get Jim. I can't see any way of improving the image other than to give slightly more room to the left and on top.

Beautiful shot, Jim. Love the details and pose. The background is also very nice and complimenting.

I love the complimentary colors and the detail and IQ are top notch as usual! Man these are fantastic looking owls. I also like what randy has done but both work well! TFS Jim!

Hi Jim, you are killing me with this guy. Great attentive stare, and you have captured excellent detail. Good to see a slightly different pose, and Im fine with both versions. Having said that, Im sure you could experiment even further with more versions.

Hi Jim, my first view of this species. Love the soft light and amazing eye contact. Good detail and the different tones of grey and brown work nicely together. TFS.
