Default JuvenileBald Eagle in the Spotlight

I am having so much fun playing with my 1D MK IV. I love being able to do dark bird on dark BG shots without worrying about noise (A big problem for me with my 7D) I like this shot because it looks like there is a spotlight on the eagle. I love juvies because of the different body patterns. It is at age 5 that they get the typical white head. This guy is 3 or 4 years old.

Love it, Gail. Excellent flight posture, IQ and details. Pops so nicely against the dark bg.
    Did you mean 1/2000?

Excellent, love the wing position and sharp details. the BG is a bit dark and the juvi is a bit lost with his dark feathers, I'd suggest raising the exposure in the BG by 1 stop for better separation.

    great work

The quality of your work has gone up noticeably since you got a MK4. That is why I always recommend to talented and passionate photographers not to hesitate upgrading to a 1D4 if they can get one!

I love the overall colors of this image, agree that a slight tweak to the bg will separate the bird from the bg well. Very powerful feel to the bird, love the slightly open beak and the fine details in the wings and head.

A terrific shot Gail - well done. I am biting my tongue regarding the old cherry - "noise" in the 7D

Do I read it right? Shutter speed is 1/200 sec?
Or it meant to be 1/2000 sec.
Anyway, nice flight shot. It is a little bit underexposed as per my taste, Gail.
I realize that going dark or going bright is a style. Right now I prefer bright. Sommertime I might go dark.
Mark IV is such a versatile camera and it does perform well even at ISO 1250.

Hi Gail, you have captured a good flying posture with the raised wings, and well placed in the frame. Overall nice and sharp, and I like the mottled BG. Im going the other way, and if this were mine, I would lighten the eagle a touch.

This is a good, sharp, well composed flight shot Gail. The eagle does tend to merge with the bg so lightening either the bg or the eagle sounds like good advice.

Gail, excellent wings, angle and the composition. I do like it as presented...but a tad brighter will also work. Well done. yes to nice light on the bird.

Love the mood here Gail, and good pose/details. I agree with Stu in that I would lighten the bird as I love dark BGs like this...

Thank you all for the helpful comments. I decided to lighten the BG by .67 exposure. I was worried that if I increased the brightness of the eagle I might make the whites hot.
    The correct SS is 1/2000.

Nice wing position, comp and great detail Gail. You must be pumping weights to get that hand-holding so well . For me, both exposures are ok but I think the latter is a bit better - gives a little more separation.

Lovely space and good comp. I like the detail and the sharpness. I would say the only thing thats not appealing to me is the very dark bird on the very dark BG! Repost is an improvement... Have you tried blurring the BG a bit more? That might work! TFS Gail!
