    Question I Need Puffins!

Can anybody recommend any photographer/workshops for photographing
    puffins in the Maine area?

Next to penguins, these guys are at the top of my list for capturing images
    of.

    Thanks
    Doug

    Doug,

From the coast of Maine you can get to Machias Seal Island. There you will be within 10 feet of Puffins, Razorbills and more. Best trip is out of Cuttler Maine. Call Andy at 207-259-4484. The season is mid June to Mid July. Weather can be bad early season. Good luck, Bob

    Hey Doug,
I run workshops there......so PM me if interested as I do more than just the Puffin on my workshop/tour. Bob is giving you some great advice if you want to go at it alone. I have been on the island 18 times....maybe more as I have lost count. It has changed over the years.....some things better.....some things worse. Many options today.......so just make sure to compare and ask questions.

Another vote for Captain Andy and Machias Seal Island. I booked two days as weather can be a problem. It worked out great for me and I visited the island twice. A friend visited a couple of days later and had his trip cancelled due to rough seas. Keep in mind the sun rises VERY early in Maine during July. Sunrise was around 4:15 AM.

    +1

Capt. Andy is great and yes two days booking is recommended as our first days visit was cancelled due to rough sea.

This will give you an idea of how close you are in the blinds at Machias Seal Island. This was taken with a Nikon 300 f/4. The birds were so close I could not get a full bird in the frame. This is largely uncropped. Long lenses are not needed. As you are shooting from a blind, the key is something you can work in a small space.
