I took this shot at a local marine lake. I tidied up the background, there was also a lot of poop on the stone it was perched upon. I am not too sure what I think about this image, I think it looks too static, I would be interested to read what your take is on it.

Nice shot, Jonathan. I might want to use slective Linear Burn on the flank to bring out more details but it is not a must.
I like the rocky perch, light and details.

Well, although it's not the most "exciting" shot in the world, it's very beautiful: the light is sweet and engaging, and the bird looks terrific. It looks like you did a great job at cleaning up the "poop" too, but if it were me, I'd leave it in...but perhaps I'm disgusting? It's hard to know, sometimes...

Nothing wrong with a static shot imo. I love the light, exposure, perch, and the shades of green. The comp is nice and the bird is sharp. I like that misplaced feather on the back.
I see some PP artifacts at the top of the frame - easy to sort out.

Hi Jon, nothing wrong with being static, and Im fine with this pose and HA, and perfectly placed too. Good DOF throughout the image, and you have brought out the colours and sharpness nicely on the Knot. The moss on the rock perch adds interest, as does the single loose feather.Comp wise, I would maybe take a bit off the top, and feel a touch more NR is needed on the BG, especially above the bird.

The loose feather keeps this image from being static. Nice perch with the moss. I too, see a line where you did some PP on left upper border. Nice light and exposure.I like how his feet are angled. Good image,
    Gail

If static portraits were bad I'd be working at Burger King or WalMart.... I like the image and I love shorebirds. The bird is a well-worn juvenile molting to first winter plumage. Was it taken recently? (I think not...) It looks like a bit of sloppy cloning work along the upper frame edge....

Thanks very much for the feedback everyone -(and for the wrist slap Artie - I deserved that! - just making sure your on the ball!!) the image was taken last week. I did tame the highlights a bit but I suspect a little more would improve. I will take a look see at the crop as well Stu. I did wonder about that loose feather but I think Gail has a good point.

YAW. Was intended more as a statement of fact than a wrist slap . I was surprised at the last week thing as the median coverts look relatively unworn. I meant to mention that the whites on the flank look fine from here.

I like this shot. lots of details, good shooting angle, good work on the perch. If mine, I'd take some off the top for better balance.

This is very, very nice. The detail, IQ and sharpness really looks great. I like the perch (For me it makes the image!) Clone work is noted, but I would take a touch off the top anyway to strengthen the comp and crop... Very nice jonathan and thanks for sharing!
