    Default Canada Geese

    This was taken this weekend from a kayak. The geese were almost directly backlit just after sunrise. Canon 1DmkIV, Canon 500mm F4, 1/3200 @ F 7.1, ISO 1250. Average metering +1. Would appreciate any comments and suggestions.

    Killer situation with a good EXP. In the field I would have tried to have gotten just a bit higher to avoid the merge of the rear bird's head and the shoreline and raised the lens a bit--there is too much dead space below. At the computer I might have tried to create a true SILH with the bird's black. Be right back.

    Well, it was impossible to get the geese all BLACK without making a selection so I went for darker. Used an APTATS II technique to move the birds down in the frame.

    Art, thanks for taking the time to edit it. I like the lower placement and checked the raw file and I will have enough space above to place the birds lower. Like the stronger color as well. Glad you are back and had such a great experience.
