The seal itself is great, but I think what makes this image have more life is the
fact that you get just enough detail in the background/foreground to see the slight
indentations (sorry, couldn't think of a better word).

Looks like she's posing for the seal version of playboy . Nice little touch of light in the eyes and as Doug alluded to, contour on the snow/ice.

I like the pose and details on this image very much. The only thing that distracts me is the patch of yellowish show behind the seal ...... but I guess there is nothing you can do about these things when shooting wildlife. Always something in the way..

Thanks Mario. I am usually a fan of super-clean BKGRs but here the yellowish crud and the dark indentation in the snow tell us that there was something else going on here not long ago. Probably a skua eating a shag chick.... So I left it. Here is a version with a complete BKGR clean-up using two transformed, flopped, warped Quick Masks. Amazingly I much prefer the original post.

Artie - your repost isn't showing up. Great pose, color and detail in the OP. I don't mind the dirty bg.

YAW. Thanks for the heads up. The image was missing because of a very advanced and technical problem: I forgot to attach it .

ps: Let's call it interesting rather than dirty .

Nice lounging photo of the seal.
Your website penguin colony photo's are astonishing.
Not to hijack the thread, but they are so amazing and almost surrealistic, I thought they needed to be
    commented on.
    Incredible!

Love the pose here! As always well exposed and composed. I like the clean look of the repost but prefer the OP as it fits my cloning ethic in natural history images

Vote here for the original. Maybe if there were more contours/texture in the same area where
the crud was, but as it is, with the repost, its just too perfect. There's just enough 'crud' I
think to give this seal a sense of location in the environment.

I have no background distraction elimination ethics but I still like the first one best.
