    Default Busy at work.

Fresh off the press, as this was taken this morning in the Pilanesberg nature reserve. No set up, totally in the wild. This is a Southern Masked Weaver busy with his nest. I needed a spotter to tell me each time he was on his way, but didnt have one, so had to judge everything myself. I used one of the top focussing points so I had space below for him to fly into, as he always approached from the bottom. When I saw him approaching, I focussed on the nest and just fired away and captured a couple of images per arrival. I also did this shooting vertical. I have some of him leaving the nest too. Ive learnt from this to stop down to create more DOF, so as to get better IQ on the weaver. My next visit.

Wonderful image Stuart, love the pose and blade of grass in the beak. Just a suggestion for next time if you can include some of the branch the nest is connected to visually I think it would ad just a touch more to the image

Looks very well done to me Stuart. I think this looks easier than it probably was. Nice techs - sweet BG. Agree that a bit of the branch holding the nest might be good to provide more context.

Thanks Nico. It was pretty busy with PK's early morning, then the weavers and bishops. Nothing special that we arent used too.

Thanks everyone else for the kind words.

Another vote for including the branch that holds the nest. Excellent shot. The nest is so fresh and green and the weaver is nice and sharp. The nesting material is icing on the cake. Well done,

Excellent image Stuart! I like the sharpness, colourful bird, complimenary BG and timing. I agree with the other on trying to include some of the branch holding the nest on your next outing.

Great fun here Stuart, with the nest in the frame and mouth full of grass telling the story.

+1 on the stick above. Perhaps 350mm would be about right !

    Cheers

Sweet shot Stuart. Great pose, BG, and detail in that nest. I'm sure there's better/easier ways to get these kind of shots but I bet they aren't near as much fun.

WoW!! Stuart !! Superb capture from nature as it is. Agree that inclusion of more of nest anchor would be a plus.
    Kep them coming.

Great work Stu! and to think we were there on different days applying the same technique :)
I stopped down to f8, focused on the nest and kept my left eye open to see him approaching
