Since my B&W Effects Opossum post was lost with the problems I decided to repost it as a Fractalius. I went for a softer look for this fract than my usual fracts. I find it hard to believe how far north these critters have moved over the years. Up here they do often get frost bite on their ears and tails though.
Excellent work on the critter, Andrew! I'm certain you made it look better than it does in person. Going soft on this was a great choice, yet still keeping enough sharpness in the important areas. and not even a whisker in front of either eye! great shot and processing.
Agree with above. I'm a bit jealous...went to my favorite possum hangout just today and they weren't there. Cute little guys, aren't they! Beautiful closeup.
Beautifully done, Andrew. I think I like it even better than the first/lost post. Very cool highlights in the eyes. Back then I commented that NOW I can say I know what possum ears look like.
Thanks folks, much appreciate the comments. This was shot from about 7-8 feet away, every time I step in closer this little fella started hissing and showing its teeth..not so cuddly. I don't know what it takes to make them play dead, but my dog has found them around the house before and they never play dead, just growl and hiss a lot with teeth showing.
I really like the soft look and it does look cute and cuddly, but having seen many and one too close for comfort in my open compost bucket on the back porch out in the country, I know they look formidable with mouth open mouth and hissing! Not to mention that most I've seen looked like they'd not fared well in skirmishes with other critters.
