Most of you will recognise this image, posted it last week. In the original post I cloned out tree and twiggs. Steve commented on the image saying that he could see some bad PP work on my part ESP the cloning He suggested that I should leave the image as shot. So here's the new version, would like to here what you guys think. Here is last weeks version http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...3-Male-Leopard Thanks Steve and Ken for valued imput

    Hi Vivaldo, tutto bene.

Will wait for others to come up with 'their own Critique' before I say my thoughts, as it will be good to see what feedback you get in progressing this further.

Lets keep quiet and see what else is suggested, as it would be good to get another pair of eyes.

    Hi Vivaldo,
I much prefer the image with the foliage. I feel it adds color and visual interest to the image. Like icing on the cake or dip on the veggies!I like the OP in this thread the most. In the repost I find the leopard too yellow. A beautiful image,
    Gail

The PS work looked OK to me but I far prefer it with the foliage included. If you look at the feet they seem to suggest the need for a bit of CW rotation. I like the brighter version.

Really like seeing the vegetation included, of course I love the composition of this (what's not to like). The repost looks better but I agree with Gail that the leopard appears a bit too yellow. Perhaps some selective desaturating of the yellow channel?

Your first RP is a vast improvement Viv with the inclusion of the foliage, the light on the leopard now looks far more natural as well.

Vivaldo - I also much prefer this post with foliage to the version without it. The lighter one works for me to but agree that it needs a little color tweaking.

    Vivaldo,

As expected the reintroduction of the foliage has produced a more natural looking image.

Not sure what suggestions you received for the repost or the further repost, I for one believe that "secret" suggestions and or cryptic comments are not exactly conducive to the "learning" process.

Of the two posts I find the first to be the best, but for my eyes (and my monitor) the colour could be improved. But first I would say that not only do Leopards come in different sizes, they also come in quite a range of colours ranging from quite white to a yellowy red.

I tried a repost, but could not get it to work as I wanted from the JPEG, but may I suggest reducing the red as well.

I find the ragged/jagged end of the tree distracting. The subject is the leopard for me. I would crop it something like this -

Like you second repost Vivaldo, and the inclusion of the foliage is a great improvement. Would possibly up the exposure on the leopard just a tad to bring out a little more of the whites and maybe drop the yellows and up the reds just a smidg, it may well just be my eyes and screen, WDYT. Marcs Crop doesnt really work for me, i like the space in the OP.

Thanks for valued comments and suggestion it's appreciated I personally like the opening image. I agree with Arthur on slight rotation of image. Tom your comp cuts off part of the branch, getting closer is always nice but prefer the original comp.

Yes, my crop intentionally cuts of the branch. I find the branch end distracting from the leopard. So removed it which also makes leopard larger in image. Wonder if anyone else feels the sane about the branch end? It also seems to me that the leopard is looking at the branch end and thus directs my eye toward it. You feel that the ragged branch end adds to the interest of the image?

Thanks Tom, would be interesting to here from others on comp. I personally prefer seeing the whole branch. I do think that one's eye follows the branch and having it cut off makes me want to see more.

    Hey Vivaldo,
I really like this one much better! I think your repost in pane 3 is the right direction and you could tweak it further with some of the suggestions but alll in all, that one is a winner. Now for the branch. I do really like the op comp and looking at Tom's....my first reaction was even tighter......but not fond of square comps so came up with rotation suggested, lightened leopard a few points in selective color on the red and yellow channel and then a touch more brighness and contrast inseperated doses on the leopard and the sky. Just another alternative to a very nice image!

I like this crop a lot more than your previous one. Of all the reposts I prefer your 2nd one in this thread, Vivaldo .
Here's another option - but might not be to everyone's tastes. I applied selective colour balance to the sky to make it more blue - though it may not be how you perceived it when shooting.
This has shown up a greater contrast between the blue and the yellow/red of the leopard so might be worth toning the cat down just a tad, based on your intention with the image?
    WDYT?

Thanks again toall comments and input Roman your repost works very nicely, lightening theleopard has help improve contrast, and the image has more punch. Morkel yourversion has nice sky colors but doesn't work for me. I prefer the cloud colors to be as I remembered them.

The inclusion of the foliage works better for me too and would also go with Morkel's suggestion with regards to the sky.
