This immature Little Blue Heron looked as if he could use a little more landing practice. Light was fading fast, so the high ISO compromised this a little, but I liked the landing pose and semi-high key look. From an outing with James on the Hooptie Deux last Saturday. (Thanks, James). C&C appreciated.

Love the facial expression Bill. If it were mine I'd create a layer mask and darken the bird just a little little bit so it's easier to see from the high key background.

I like the white on white that is going on with this image. I would increase the saturation on the legs and eye to make them pop from the white BG. I also like the diagonal line created by the beach. My nit is that the first digit of bird's right foot is lost in the sand.

Hilarious! Love the moment captured, the comp and the almost monochromatic look. Terrific image, Bill.
I would've traded DOF for more SS

Thanks, all. I appreciate the comments.

Stan, I rather liked the white on white, and was afraid that darkening the bird might make him look muddy.

Gail, I did boost the saturation just a tiny bit on the eye and legs, and didn't want it to look overdone; but probably could have used just a little more. I agree about the toe. I thought about copying the toe from the left foot onto the right, but it would probably look fake.

Sidharth, Yes, given that the light was fading, I probably should have dialed back the aperture a little, either for more SS or lower ISO.

I like the exposure, white on white and timing. Well done Bill! I tried a version with the heron moved up and toe added just for fun.

Thanks Jim. That looks convincing. I'll go back to the masterfile and add a toe.

Lovely on all counts: pose and EXP especially. And I like Jim's repost a ton too. A smidge more head turn towards us would have improved an excellent image.

Excellent shot. Great timing, exposed very well, great wing position, and the repost is much better.
    Well done.
