    Default Arctic fox

Probably not the coldest location I have been in, but cold enough, round about -23 degrees that day. Some slight shadows of undulating drifts removed. The snow is never pure white and so I have left the slight blue hue you get, also to convey the cold too and with VERY limited light to to shoot in.

Steve - great pov and your usual excellent detail and IQ. Slight blue doesn't bother me at all. Not sure if it is something in the whiskers or a sensor spot but there is a very small spot at the end of the whiskers off the non-visible eye. I think this would also work well as a vertical. I don't envy those cold conditions.

I like how this shows off the shape of the head and the starkness of the snow. Rachel has great eyes, I do see the spot would have never noticed it without reading that comment.
Way too cold for me now.

Rachel, is it a black spot, near the mouth, close to the nose, if so it's some debris. If not, stick an arrow on it and email me.

I like where you are going with this Steve but I wish I could see a bit more of the mouth and neck. I wish you had moved 6 inches to the right! I really like the cloud-like dreamy feel and the white on white,

Rachel what it is is some debris on some hairs. The hairs are so fine they are lost except for this small piece, hence I did not pick it up.

    Thanks again.

Nice image Steve, don't mind the cold cast as it suits the conditions. I like the way the fox is snuggled into the snowy environment but not sure about the crop as the fox's head feels, instinctively, too central. I would have loved just a tiny bit more detail in the snow but realise that it may not be a realistic expectation. Look forward to seeing more from this icy expedition.

    Steve,

Firstly on my monitor the snow looks a little blue. The detail looks a little thin, probably as a result of the relatively slow shutter speed for a hand held shot. Perhaps too much shivering
Can you perhaps explain the strange colour difference in the lower left there is also a very noticable white patch around the nose.

    Hey Steve,
Had to change the BG from bp light to Capt James to make a good assesment......I might pull back a touch on the blue, even though I do feel it does add to the cold feel......so not much. I eeyed the comp a few times and as my usual preference is for tighter.....it didn't feel right to do that in this case.....so just tweak the blue or cyan a few points for my tastes.....the rest is a winner!

Cheers Roman, I did have reservations re 'how it was viewed' because of the architecture and visual presentation. I've hardly had any time since landing, so this was the first off. I need to see it printed as that is the litmus test for me, if it goes too white it will just be a 'floating head'. Just wanted that minimal look and looking away from camera, plus shooting with the 70-200 means you have to shoot wider, which is rather refresh from the 500.

Sid I guess I was trying to take a leaf out of yours & Chas's book on this one, that's why it's nice to have diversity of thinking and subjects.

I really like the POV here. Was it peeping out from behind a snowy mound?
The detail on the head of the fox looks a-okay to me. I like snowy images with a hint of a "blue/cold" feel

    Steve,

I am sorry that you were unable to answer my questions, I have chosen not to post an image that shows the processing that has been undertaken.
