    Default Intensity III

Another image I have revisited from my 2009 trip to the Timbavati Game Reserve in South Africa. Again, I like this tight profile because it shows the convex lens of the eye.

    Canon 50D
    100-400 @ 400mm
    1/200
    f5.6
    ISO 400
HH from safari vehicle, luminosity mask, levels, curves and some selective color adjustments, cropped a little from the rhs for comp, sharpened in CS5.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

    Rachel

Lovely side profile Rachel, and you have conveyed the convex contour on the pupil.

Processing & sharpening also looks spot on, with excellent detail where it needs to be, although I am not too sure about the amount of NR(?), but it does separate the subject from the BKG. You could if inclined, just take out the slight hint of Blue in the whites of the chin.

Thanks Steve. Only ran one round of NR selectively on the bg. Unsure from your comment if you think it is too much or too little? Will look at the chin again.

Thanks and hope your trip is going well.

Hi Rachel, yes back late last night, just thawing out.

Personally I think it's a tad too much.

Wonderful profile, really enjoy the closeness of the photo. Detail and sharpness look spot on.

Lovely sharp portrait Rachel, also like the profile. The only thing that I am not sure of is the comp, although I like it, would maybe have prefered slight more room at the top.

Lovely and simple. Maybe warm it up a bit?

    Hey Rachel,
I am fine with the BG NR and just love the way the mane frames the face. May go a touch warmer as Gail recommends......but subjective and can vary from monitor to monitor......so a very nice one all around!

Very eye catching image. I like the slight dark cast. I can see this guy lying low at dusk watching the herds move around wondering whats for super.

    Rachel,

I have looked at this several times and can safely say the image has great detail etc.
What concerns me is the "missing" top of the head. I realise that missing parts are quite fashionable now and obviously acceptable in competitions, but to me it just looks wrong. But I guess I am old fashioned

Thanks Doug and Ken. Ken - no problem, different tastes and opinions are good.
