When the sun hits these Eared Grebes, they really light up. For some reason, I am partial to back views and over the shoulder looks, what do you think? I took this yesterday morning at Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve (adjacent to Las Vegas). Center comp is intentional.
Canon 40D; manual exposure, 1/2000, f8.0, 640 ISO and 400mm with Canon 100-400; RAW, cropped, levels, curves and sharpened.
Nice job, Katie! Just my personal taste but I'm not sure I love looking straight at the "wazoo" of the bird. ;) The composition and head angle are great; these guys have such devilish-looking eyes.
Usually a nice look back will save a "butt shot," but for me the angle on this one makes it hard. Other than that, I might go for an off-center crop, but centered works well too because of the wake.
Yep, butt shots are certainly a matter of personal taste and I almost always find them interesting and often funny, weird, I know. Jim, thanks for the eye improvement, I like it. Thanks all for looking.
